Dick Harrison has written a brilliant book about four figures in the New Testament. The story-tellers of Antiquity and the Middle Ages elaborated upon the often rather meagre details in the Bible, and their stories still fascinate people to this day. Maria Magdalena followed Jesus, Judas betrayed him, Pontius Pilate condemned him and Joseph of Arimathea buried him. But why? And what happened afterwards? Taking in a very wide range of sources from the medieval legends of the saints to popular literature of our own times, Dick Harrison describes much more than the flora of legends around the historic figures. He also describes how the traitor, the harlot and the suicide were transformed into personifications of timeless traumas, which have just as much relevance to people today as they did to our forefathers.
"Harrison can make history come alive. He is an excellent storyteller and his language is brilliant", as quoted from the presentation of the Duke Karl Prize.
Dick Harrison received the August Prize for the best work of non-fiction with his book Stora döden in 2000. His published works include: Krigarnas och helgonens tid (1999), Jarlens sekel (2002) and Tankar om historia (2003).
