Arne and Heléne Mårtensson have worked for many years as senior executives in the bank world. Arne was the Chairman of the board of Handelsbanken and was a director of several other important Swedish companies when they decided to realise their dream of sailing round the world. Their route followed in the wake of Captain James Cook, on his first journey, but the Mårtenssons continued down to the Antarctic and up along the coast of Chile in the Patagonian archipelago.
Their boat, Yaghan, is a 62-foot Hallberg-Rassy, fitted with the latest technology – everything that can facilitate a journey in these empty waters.
In their book, Arne and Heléne explain how they equipped their boat for an extreme round-the-world journey, how to make proper weather and route analyses; they describe the fantastic experiences of nature, and reason why they chose another reality than the financial world.
