The crime-writing duo Hjorth and Rosenfeldt got off to a flying start with Det fördolda / Dark Secrets, the first book about psychologist and profiler Sebastian Bergman, which was on the hardcoverbestseller list in Sweden for three months. In Lärjungen / The Disciple, Sebastian Bergman returns, as does the team with Torkel, Ursula, Vanya and Billy.
Sebastian Bergman does everything he can to bring some order into the chaos that is his life, and to cure his sexual addiction. After long having tried to find his daughter, he has at last learned her identity – a discovery that has given him a new meaning in life. Now he is struggling with whether he should reveal himself
to her as her biological father. That she – Vanya – also happens to be his appreciated colleague further complicates the situation. He longs to tell her, but at the same time understands that it could destroy her life. She already has somebody she calls ’dad’, and whom she loves.
At the same time, his old team in the National Crime Squad – which includes Vanya – is investigating a series of brutal murders of women. The murders remind Sebastian Bergman of Edward Hinde, a convicted serial killer he put behind bars many years ago. But Hinde is still in jail, and under strict guard, which leads the police to believe that they might be dealing with a copycat.
Finally, Sebastian manages to convince Torkel, his old boss and teamleader, to let him have a close look at the investigation.
What he finds is extremely unsettling. Sebastian realises that the victims are all connected to him – and that his daughter might be in imminent danger.
Pressvoices:
“This book is incredibly good, ferociously exciting, and the cliché about being impossible to put down really fits. The language is rapid and sprinkled with humor./…/ I count the days until the next book comes out.”
Värmlands Folkblad
”Well written and exiting!”
DAST Magazine
“An exceedingly quick, efficient and continuously action packed crime thriller. They know their craft. They have great command of the staccato rhythm of this curt, brusque language and use it to create drama and continuously increasing tension.”
Borås Tidning
“A horribly scary new thriller from Sweden’s hottest thriller writing duo. I hardly dared turn out the light after reading the first four chapters.”
Author Denise Rudberg
”The book’s incarcerated serial killer has similarities to Hannibal Lecter in the movie Silence of the Lambs. But Hjort/Rosenfeldt’s strength lies not so much in plot as it does in the psychological exchange between the carefully portrayed characters. Once again, the ending gives us hope of a continuation.”
Västerviks-Tidningen
”But then comes the turning point, everything gets a context. And I have the same dizzying feeling that I guess Bergman gets when the truth becomes apparent to him. From then on, it’s a high speed page turner. And time to congratulate Hjort and Rosenfeldt to a frighteningly good sequel.”
Blekinge Läns Tidning
“This second book in the Sebastian Bergman series is a real page-turner and much more exciting than the first. The final twist in the tale whets your appetite for more.”
Skaraborgs Allehanda
“Hjort and Rosenfeldt are definitely skilled in the craft of producing must-read excitement.”
Laholms Tidning
“A singularly exciting detective novel.” Mariestads-Tidningen
“Full of non-stop excitement, the book is well-written, the language snappy.” VLT
“The serial killer Hinde conjures up images of Hannibal Lecter, but in his own, chillingly normal way.” Dagens Nyheter
“The author duo continue to impress by delivering a consistent, fast-moving pace throughout the book, crafting several truly powerful psychological profiles in the process.”
Norra Västerbotten
Pressvoices about Det fördolda / Dark Secrets:
“The best debut since Stieg Larsson? /.../ after reading a few pages I am hooked. After that, it is hard to put it down. /.../ It is good. Really good.” Kristianstadsbladet
“Det fördolda is a well-written story with a very well thought-out gallery of characters.” Skånska Dagbladet
