Mårten is 33 and he has a scrap yard for old cars. He doesn’t actually know so much about cars, but he loves them. He lives together with Lena, but sometimes he is not even allowed to come home. Then he spends the night in an old taxi in the scrap yard. Tiny and Mr Hermansson work there and neither of them understands why Mårten sticks with his Lena. Now and then Mårten runs away from both love and the scrap yard in order to try to trace a specimen of the Ford Edsel, a beautiful but unsuccessful car from the history of the American dream.
De tiotusen tingen is a remarkable novel about life, particularly as it is lived in Sweden’s shadow areas.
