Stig Dagerman published more than a thousand daily verses, commenting – often satirically – on recent events and political developments. The very first he wrote in autumn 1943, the last one he delivered to the newspaper Arbetaren (The Worker) the day before his suicide in 1954. For more than 50 years these Daily Notes have had a very special place in Swedish literature.
In this new edition, world-renowned Syrian poet Adonis provides an introduction of the work, with companion poems matching Dagerman’s sententious verses. Daily Notes remain as current and affecting as they were then, and continues to serve as a source of inspiration to younger generations of poets, journalists and musicians alike.
