We are extremely delighted to share the news that Nina Wähä and Lotte Möller have both been shortlisted for the prestigious August Prize.
Nina Wähä's Testament was presented as a nominee for Best Fiction Title with the following statement: By applying every skill of the oral storytelling tradition, Nina Wähä takes the reader to the Finnish Torne Valley and the Toimi family. "Testament" unfolds through a choir of voices. It is a fable about a dark family legacy, about sorrow and love, where every person carries an entire universe.
Meanwhile, Lotte Möller's Bees and Their Keepers was revealed as a contender for Best Non-Fiction Title. This is what the jury had to say: There is a genuine love for bees that permeates this book, where Lotte Möller makes an equally imaginative and informative journey through the history of these efficient honey producers, from antiquity to the present - and plenty more in between. The current situation for the bees is urgent and the book stings with insights about an endangered eco system, but it also adds a glimmer of hope that the long and important relationship between humans and bees may carry on, also in the future.
The winners in each category will be announced during the awards ceremony on the 25th of November. We are keeping our fingers crossed.
