Never Again
16-year-old Andreea from Bucharest hopes that Barcelona will make her life better, but instead it turns into a nightmare. Like countless others, she is unwillingly sold into the sex trade. Eventually, after months of non-stop abuse, she ends up in Stockholm, where she decides that she will never again be used.
For several years Ted has been buying sex from prostitutes during his business trips to Stockholm, even more frequently since his third child was born. Then colourful envelopes start showing up in the post, carrying messages urging him to stop, and his wife starts to become suspicious. Who is out to get him, and why?
Night time in Stockholm, the police are out on the streets in search of offending sex buyers. Therapist Patrik accompanies law enforcement to offer counselling to those arrested. The johns are men from all spheres of society, sharing only an extreme egocentrism – a complete inability to see prostitutes as anything but easy means to attain satisfaction. But one night, Patrik encounters a man who seems different than the rest, claiming he is there to save a prostitute. Curiously, the guy seems genuinely concerned for the young girl’s wellbeing, and asks Patrik to call him the next day so that they can talk. But when Patrik tries to get in touch with him later the man is gone, and eventually reported as missing by the ex-wife.
Three people, and three destinies, are masterfully woven together in this unsparing, highly-current thriller about sex trafficking in Sweden and in Europe. Following her tremendous debut success, with more than 57.000 copies sold, Sara Larsson has achieved an even stronger second novel that will resound with the reader for a long time.
