The Drop
The one who lives on borrowed money, lives on borrowed time.
The year is 2002. Stockholm is slowly recovering from the dot-com crash and the economy is looking brighter. Mikael meets Lotta in a bar and soon they take their first mutual steps on the property ladder. In the coming years they move from apartment to apartment while their mortgage keeps adding up. There are no visible clouds on the horizon, and Mikael begins speculating in property development as a secure investment.
But when the property prices start dwindling Mikael takes a harsh and merciless plunge. He becomes painfully aware that nobody cares when you are at the bottom of society. When he hears a rumour that someone close to him is in danger, nobody takes him seriously. Lonely and desperate he gets hold of a gun and starts setting his own plan into motion. Soon he is caught up in a violent downward spiral that appears unstoppable.
The Drop is a thriller about social injustice and how close we all are to personal bankrupcy. This is Lars Wilderäng’s first stand alone book.
