The Seamstress’ Dream of Freedom

Helena’s life has taken a turn for the better, following her relocation to Härjedalen after her personal life crashed. Now, she’s making waffles at the cosy waffle hut for a living, but she longs for more. This is when she notices the old yellow house where Hilda – the woman who previously ran the waffle hut – once lived. The discovery arouses curiosity about Hilda’s life and person.

In the beginning of the 1970s, Hilda and her husband live on the big farm in Fjällnäs, but their marriage is not a happy one. The only thing that keeps Hilda afloat is the waffle making and the encounters with the guests. But deep inside she harbours a longing to sew.

When a film crew from Stockholm suddenly shows up, and Hilda gets to know the cast and crew of the production, she suddenly find herself at a crossroads. Does Hilda have the courage to change her life?

The Seamstress’ Dream of Freedom is a beautiful feelgood novel with a tinge of sorrow. It is the freestanding sequel to Karin Härjegård’s A Waffle Hut with a View, which won the title Feelgood Novel of the Year 2022.
