About the book
I open my eyes. On my right side sits a boy with uncut hair and drooping shoulders, to my left two girls of a young school age. Opposite there’s a man with a stupid grin.
– Everything alright? he asks.
I don’t understand. Is he talking to me? I have a fork in my left hand, a knife in my right. On the plate before me lies a half-eaten burger, salad and potatoes. It is as if I was having dinner.
Mia Berggren is struck by a sudden and inexplicable memory loss. From one moment to the next she no longer remembers her family or friends, doesn’t have a clue about who she is. She undergoes major examinations without the doctors finding any explanations. Piece by piece she is forced to recreate herself out of the expectations of others. The problem is that she doesn’t like the woman she’s supposed to be. The woman she was, the life she lived; it all seems empty, stupid and uninteresting. Doesn’t she deserve to be something more?
Woman Without Memory is a novel about what happens to a person, when all her memories are suddenly gone.
