Balsam Karam, b. 1983, is a Swedish-Kurdish novelist and librarian, celebrated for her lyrical, boundary-pushing prose. She debuted with Händelsehorisonten / Event Horizon (2018), shortlisted for the Katapult Prize and awarded Smålits migrantpris, and followed with Singulariteten  / The Singularity (2021), nominated for the August Prize and shortlisted for the EU Prize for Literature. Her work, now published internationally, explores exile, grief, and love with rare precision and compassion. Alongside her writing, Karam is a librarian and an active cultural voice in Sweden.
