Ingela
Strandberg

Ingela Strandberg (born 1944) is one of the most significant contemporary Nordic poets, whose major recognition arrived late in life. After decades of writing with quiet intensity, her work has in recent years been recognised as a late-period mastery of rare depth and authority.
Rooted in the rural landscapes of southern Sweden, Strandberg’s poetry moves between the animal and the human, the local and the metaphysical. Her language is spare, grounded and rhythmically precise, carrying ethical weight without ornament. Ageing, death, memory, shame and ecological vulnerability recur as motifs, rendered with unsentimental clarity.
In her seventies and eighties, Strandberg has entered a period of extraordinary creative force, producing a sequence of books now regarded as one of the strongest late poetic achievements in contemporary Scandinavian literature.
